What exactly happened? – Zee News conducted a sting operation on BCCI chairman of selectors Chetan Sharma. The man in charge of selecting the future of Indian cricket alleged that many Indian Cricket stars take injections to get 100% fit before matches. However, those injections are not painkillers or prescribed by the medical team.
Furthermore, he alleged that the dressing room is divided into two groups — Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. In addition, he also claimed that Virat Kohli’s sacking from captaincy was a result of an ego clash between Kohli and ex-president Sourav Ganguly.
“Players can’t clear medical tests but don’t want to miss matches. Indian Cricket Team players take injections & get 100% fit even if they’re 80% fit. These are not painkillers. These injections contain drug which isn’t caught in Dope Test,” Chetan was caught saying on camera.
Chetan Sharma’s allegations:
- Indian Cricketers take injections from private doctors to pass fitness tests.
- The injections are not prescribed by the BCCI medical team. Instead, they can be categorised under doping.
- The injections contain drugs that evade BCCI’s regular doping tests.
- That way, unfit players manage to keep their places in Indian team.
- Virat Kohli believed it was Sourav Ganguly who forced him out of ODI captaincy and that is why he gave an explosive press conference.
- Indian team dressing room is divided into two groups of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. But there is no rift between them.
- Jasprit Bumrah was not fit to play in the South Africa series ahead of T20 World Cup. Yet, he was made to play.
“It will be BCCI secretary Jay Shah call as to what will be Chetan’s future. The question is whether T20 skipper Hardik Pandya or ODI and Test captain Rohit Sharma would like to sit with Chetan in a selection meeting knowing that he has let out internal discussions,” a senior BCCI official told PTI on conditions of anonymity.
Will Chetan Sharma be sacked again? – It should be noted that Chetan and the entire selection committee were fired by the BCCI following a disappointing T20 WC campaign. However, BCCI reappointed the former World Cupper as the chairman of selectors after a month. Now, with the discontent among cricketers, it is likely that he will be shown the door again.
“His days are obviously numbered. It will be very difficult for the players to trust him after his words came public. But it will be decided only after the internal investigation. But there is a possibility that he quits himself. We will know after meeting with him,” the BCCI official said.
