WPL Auction LIVE: Women Premier League 2023 The big day is here in women’s cricket. Almost all women’s players have been waiting eagerly for the Women’s Premier League and it’s here. A total of 449 players will go under the hammer in Mumbai. But it’s the Australian superstars who will be in huge demand, not Indians. InsideSport reached out to the franchise officials and two of them confirmed, their prime target include Ellyse Perry, Tahlia McGrath and Ashleigh Gardner among other Aussie superstars. “India are 2nd best at the moment in T20s and the results have shown. But of course, being Indians, they will be big targets. But it’s the Australian players who will be in huge demand. The quality and exposure they have had in recent times show in the international results. There are 6-7 all-rounders in that team and all of them are game-changers,” a franchise official who will take part in the inaugural WPL Auction told InsideSport.

A total of 28 Australian players are part of the inaugural WPL Auction 2023. Out of the 28, 15 of them have enlisted themselves as all-rounders. After India, Australia occupy the most number of players in the auction shortlist. England are 2nd on the overseas list with 27 players.

WPL 2023 Auction All you need to know:

  • The highest price bracket at the auction is Rs 50 Lakh.
  • A total of 24 players are in the bracket including Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana.
  • 6 Australian players have enlisted them in the highest category.
  • In the next category, INR 40 lakh, there are 30 players, including eight from India.
  • However, out of 449 players, only a maximum of 90 players will be picked.
  • A team can have a minimum of 15 and maximum 18 players.
  • Each team can have up to 6 overseas players.
  • That means the participation from foreign players will be limited to just 30.
  • Out of the 30, franchises will have t0 pick associate team players as well.

Incentive of Picking player from Associate Nation: 8 Players in the Auction POOL are from Associate Nations. But to pick one of these 8 will come with an incentive scheme. Like IPL, Teams can field four overseas players in their XIs. But they will be allowed to include fifth overseas player, provided she is from an Associate nation.

What is the BREAK-UP of players at the AUCTION? 28 players at the WPL Auction will be from Australia & 27 from England. 23 players come from the West Indies, 19 from New Zealand & 17 from South Africa. 15 players are from Sri Lanka, 11 from Zimbabwe, nine from Bangladesh. Ireland will be represented by six players at the AUCTION. 4 Players will be from the UAE, and one each from USA, Hong Kong, Netherlands and Thailand.

Who could be the big buys? The first set includes Devine, Ecclestone, Gardner, Harmanpreet, Mandhana, Hayley Matthews and Perry. All these players can go for the HIGHEST Amounts at the AUCTION.

Who are the youngest and the oldest players in the auction? Latika Kumari, aged 41, is the oldest player in the auction. Zimbabwe’s Marange close on the heels at 40.
