After a sluggish beginning to the first round of the super bout, Volkanovski connected with the first significant hook. He subsequently surprised Islam with a serious blow. After that, Islam put Volkanovski down while applying a hold after out-muscling him in closer range, but the Australian looked comfortable. Similar to how he did in round 1, Volk got things going in round two with a powerful hook that briefly stopped Islam. Later, Islam had the most significant moments in round 2.

But Islam trounced Volk in the third round. The Australian kicked off the next-to-last round with force and a powerful jab and a right to the body. The story was the same. Makhachev struck back with a terrible punch which made Volk creep up to the fence. Makhachev takes him by the back and establishes a body triangle, but Vol didn’t tap as he promised in Presser.

And all came down to the last round where The Great absolutely destroyed Islam in R5. Volkanovski gave a tremendous effort, knocking Islam to the ground and pummeling him. Volk seemed to be trying a Ko at one point, but he failed then the results went to judges. The judges ruled that Islam, who won a tough battle, is still the Lightweight champion.

Yair Rodriguez undertook the interim featherweight title in the UFC following Josh Emmett’s defeat in the co-main event. And now “The Great” will face Rodriguez. Check out the results of the entire cards. Also, we live blog every event, you may follow the action with InsideSport.
