WPL 2023 Auction: Women Premier League’s Lucknow franchise will miss their mentor Lisa Sthalekar in the WPL Auction on Feb 13. The reason is that the former India-born Australian cricketer is a commentator for ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. The Capri Global-owned franchise will be known as UP Warriorz and has appointed England Women’s coach Jon Lewis will be the team’s coach in the inaugural season. Capri Global Holdings Private Limited bought Lucknow Franchise from WPL Team Auction for a whopping Rs 757 crore. The team is also the first WPL team to unveil its new logo.
UP Warriorz logo unveiled: The logo comprises four components — a rendition of the sarus crane, a sword, wings that extend out like the rays of the sun, and a shield to hold it all together.
Former England cricketer Jon Lewis will be the head coach of the team. Arjuna awardee Anju Jain will be the assistant coach. Former Australian cricketer Ashley Noffke will join the team as the bowling coach.

Lewis, the current head coach of the England women’s team, will also miss the WPL auction as he is with England team for T20 World Cup. He is vastly experienced and has bagged more than 1200 wickets in over 500 games, internationally and domestically.
Lewis was the bowling coach for the England men’s team in 2021. He has worked with an elite group of bowlers like Jofra Archer, Mark Wood and Ben Stokes.
“I am delighted to be part of the Capri Global Holdings Private Limited family with the UP Warriorz and expect this to be a fascinating insight into the depth of cricket in India and a high-octane ride for the next couple of months,” Lewis said in a statement issued by the franchise.
The WPL is set to be played in Mumbai from March 4 to 26. A total of 22 matches will be played with the Brabourne Stadium and DY Patil Stadium playing host to the marquee tournament. The Player Auction for the WPL will be held in Mumbai on February 13.
