Earlier on Tuesday, Cricket Australia shared a picture of Steve Smith inspecting the pitch at the Nagpur’s VCA Stadium. Smith was accompanied by David Warner as both the players had a closer look at the surface that is set to be on offer for the upcoming first Test.
After his inspection Smith shared his thoughts on the pitch by saying, “Pitch is very high, at least one end, spinning in for our left-handers. I think it will be a bit skiddy, slow but not entirely sure.”
However soon after the picture was shared, Indian fans, however, couldn’t keep calm. They particularly targeted Steve Smith as the batter’s picture soon became meme material.
One fan tweeted the photo with a funny caption, that roughly translates to, “Ashwin’s ball will pitch here, will it spin, or will it come directly,”

For the unreserved, the Nagpur pitch curator is likely to take off some of the grass before the start of the first Test. Although India made it clear that they want sporting pitches, it seems Nagpur’s pitch is likely to be a rank-turner.
Earlier it was reported that India head coach Rahul Dravid was unhappy with the surface on offer in Nagpur. Dravid has called for a change in the surface just three days before the first Test. India are set to stick to their guns with rank turners as Rohit Sharma’s men are searching for a spot in the final of the ICC World Test Championship.
India are looking to unleash the spin quartet of Ashwin, Jadeja, Axar and Kuldeep for the first Test thatbegins in Nagpur on Thursday, 9th February 2023.
