Cricket Australia asked “What’s tougher: An India tour, or away Ashes series? to their star cricketers and posted a video. Players like skipper Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Steve Smith, David Warner among others expressed their views on what it’s like playing a Test series in India.

The skipper of the Australian side, who is embarking on a tough tour to India, said, “Winning a series in India is like an away Ashes series, but even more rare. I think it really is a career highlight and career defining series if you can win over there. So that’s an opportunity, can’t wait.”

“It’s a difficult place to win a Test match, let alone the series. So if we are able to topple that mountain that would be huge,” said the vice captain of the Aussie side, Steve Smith. He went on to add, “If you can win a series in India, that would be bigger than the Ashes.”

Australia last toured India in 2017 and lost the series 1-2 against the team that was led by Virat Kohli back them. Hazlewood rues at the missed opportunity of winning the series back then. “We won a Test match last time (in India). We had good chances to win the series. We didn’t quite grab them. So it’s probably the last thing to tick-off. ”

Australia will be touring both India and England this year. Speaking about both the tough tours, Mithchell Starc said, “On one side, you’ve got this great history of the Ashes. On the other side there is this tour of India, which has been out of reach for many Australian teams. If we can win an way Ashes tour and an away Indian tour, that would be really huge. It’s certainly an unique opportuinity to do so this year.”

“Being part of the last Ashes was fantastic. But to go to India and beating India, I think that’s the toughest challenge in Test cricket for us,” opined David Warner.

Australia last won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy during their homes series in 2014-15. Since then India has dominated by winning the next three subsequent series. While Australia lost their last tour to India in 2017, they also suffered defeats at their own backyard in 2018-19 and 2020-21.
