IND vs AUS: Robin Uthappa has asked selectors to give Sanju Samson a long rope. Many people rightly think that Sanju Samson has consistently been passed over by both the team administration and the selection committee. Kerala captain is chosen, plays in one or two games, and is then released. He frequently assists his teammates by providing refreshments and extra bats or by warming the benches. It is highly unlikely that Sanju will be given a chance in the Test series but his inclusion in ODIs against Aussies can’t be ruled out.

Talking about giving Sanju a chance in the Indian squad, Uthappa said:
“100 percent. There is no question about that. He should be given a long rope. Sanju is a high-quality player with a lot of potential. He has not been given a long opportunity. If you want to use him at No. 3, give him at least 5 opportunities. If you want to use him at No. 5, give him the opportunities at least. But give him a chance. Give him a couple of full series and see how he performs”
“If he doesn’t do it, then say he is not good enough for this level. If you select him and give him one match and then drop him and then say he hasn’t performed well, it sends a wrong message. It is so hard to get into the Indian side. You feel for someone like Sanju. But you just hope for the kind of opportunities he deserves.”
Sanju Samson India Career
Sanju debuted for India in a T20I match against Zimbabwe in Harare in 2015 at the age of just 21. Almost 6 years after making his debut in the shortest format of the game, he was then awarded an ODI cap in 2021. Between 2015 and 2023, Sanju, who is currently 28 years old, participated in 11 ODIs and 17 T20Is.
In a T20I encounter against Sri Lanka at Wankhede Stadium in January of this year, he last played for an India XI. He was given a chance in the first game of the three-match series, which India won by two runs, but was benched for the next two games.
Kerala batter last appeared in an ODI game in November of last year against New Zealand in Auckland, where he made 36 runs. Sanju has played 11 ODIs so far in his career between 2021 and 2022.
The Kerala star was benched for the final two ODIs against the Kiwis after scoring a crucial 36. Sanju’s name hasn’t appeared in the India squads for any of the nine ODIs that have been played since the New Zealand tour.
