Andhra skipper Hanuma Vihari suffered an injury as the batter broke his wrist off an Avesh Khan bouncer. After several attempts at swinging his bat, the veteran batter retired hurt while batting at 16 and walked off the field. He was then immediately taken to the hospital where scans confirmed that his wrist had fractured.
He had a sling on his arm before play started on Day 2 with Andhra still looking to extend their 1st innings. Despite the injury, he walked into bat the fall of the 9th wicket. A right-handed batter, Vihari batted left-handed to protect his injured wrist. He hit a couple of crisp boundaries while using only one hand to play the shots. He was eventually dismissed having stitched a vital 26-run partnership for the final wicket.

Vihari’s bravery had cricket fans in awe. It was not the first time that the Andhra captain had put his body on the line. In the famous Sydney Test in 2021, Vihari batted for 163 balls with a torn hamstring to help India salvage a draw. The result helped India clinch a 2-1 series in Australia.
Former India keeper Dinesh Karthik were amongst the many who applauded the effort. Karthik saluted Vihari’s steely resolve calling it ‘Bravery to another level’.
