Athletic Club will play Osasuna in what will be the latter’s fourth consecutive semi-final appearance, while Real Madrid and Barcelona will rematch twice more. The Spanish FA is having scheduling issues because Real Madrid plays in the FIFA Club World Cup early in February, followed by two legs of the Champions League last 16. As a result, the matches are set for four separate dates in February, March, and April.

The two previous meetings between the Spanish rivals resulted in one victory each. In October, Real Madrid defeated Barca 3-1 at Santiago Bernabeu in the La Liga match; however, the Blaugrana got even in the Spanish Super Cup final, defeating Real Madrid by the same score to win their first trophy under Xavi. Barca defeated Real Sociedad 1-0 to advance to the Copa del Rey semi-finals, while Real defeated Atletico 3-1 in a tense derby match.
The first match between Real and Barcelona will take place on March 1 at Camp Nou, and the second leg will take place on April 4 or 5 at the Santiago Bernabeu. Osasuna will host Athletic on February 8 and March 1. Real Madrid, the La Liga and European champions, will have a chance to avenge their 3-1 loss to Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup two weeks ago in the semi-final.
When they play Real Betis on February 1, Xavi’s team will try to further increase their advantage over their opponents at the top of the Liga standings. Real will play Valencia the following day.
