Spanish teenager Carlos Alcaraz became the youngest World No.1 after winning the US Open in 2022. The Spanish teenager was able to finish the year at the No.1 spot. However he suffered an injury ahead of the Australian Open and missed the tournament this year. The Spaniard has so far spent 20 weeks as the World No.1. Irrespective of the result in the Australian Open 2023, he will lose his ranking to either Djokovic or Tsitsipas.

Novak Djokovic is currently ranked World No.5 in the ATP Rankings. He lost his World No.1 spot earlier last year. The Serbian has made a terrific comeback in 2023 as he has remained unbeaten and is now vying for a 10th Australian Open title. Djokovic already has been the World No.1 for a record 373 weeks and now aims to extend it further.

Most Weeks as World No.1

  • Novak Djokovic – 373
  • Roger Federer – 310
  • Pete Sampras – 286
  • Ivan Lendl – 270
  • Jimmy Connors – 268

Tsitsipas meanwhile is currently ranked higher than Djokovic. He is the World No.3 and is looking to become the World No.1 for the first time in his career. The Greek is also aiming to lift his maiden Grand Slam title. He will however have a big task against an opponent of Djokovic’s calibre.

The 24-year old however has made his way into the summit clash for the first time in his career at the Melbourne major. He defeated Karen Khachanov 7-6, 6-4, 6-7, 6-3 in the semifinal.

Djokovic has never lost the final at Melbourne Park and Tsitsipas is trying to create history. He is also looking to become the sixth different player to beat Djokovic in a Grand Slam final.
