Chasing a modest 109, Rohit Sharma initially took his time before going berserk on the young New Zealand attack. Despite the help on offer for the bowlers, Rohit attacked with full freedom, leaving very little to chance. The Hit-Man dished out 7 boundaries and 2 sixes in his knock of 51.
While Rohit’s knock made India’s job easier, the Indian captain is looking at the bigger picture. The 35-year-old admitted that he has been short of big scores, with a century drought now stretching over three years.
“I’m trying to change my game a bit now, have been trying to take the bowlers on and I think that’s important. I know the big scores haven’t come, but I’m not too worried about it,” said Rohit Sharma after the match.
Rohit Sharma last scored an ODI hundred back in 2020 on January 19 against Australia at Bangalore. His last international century came at the Oval in 2021. Since then, however, the Indian captain has played more than 50 games across all formats without a three-figure score.
Rohit Sharma is without an ODI century in the last 17 ODIs. The drought is even more concerning given Rohit hit 18 tons in ODIs from 2017 to 2019. That stretch included 5 in the 2019 World Cup. Now, captain of the side, Rohit has changed his approach, his strike rate has gone above 100. There is a concerned effort given his career numbers hover around the 89 mark.
