Mohammad Shami injured his left hand in the field on Wednesday in Hyderabad. Bowling with the new ball, Shami was in the midst of a brilliant spell. The veteran got the ball to move sharply and hit the deck hard keeping the visiting batsmen in check. However, fate intervened when Finn Allen hit a ball straight back and Shami with venom.
Attempting to take a caught and bowled, Shami struck out his trailing arm only to hurt himself and drop the catch. He was writhing in pain and the physio was instantly called into action. Shami subsequently left the field, and was seen applying an ice pack to his hand. While there is not a blow to his bowling arm, the injury is a still a huge cause of concern for Rohit Sharma.
India have already lost Ravindra Jadeja, Deepak Chahar and Jasprit Bumrah to long-term injuries. Shami also has had his struggles with injuries in the recent past. The 32-year-old missed the ODI series against Bangladesh after injuring his shoulder. He however played the series against SriLanka. With the Test series against Australia coming up, India will be keen to manage Shami’s workload.
Fortunately for Rohit Sharma and India, the pacer returned to bowl for the hosts. There was rustiness on his return as he hit the 140kmph mark with ease, allaying concerns for India.
