How much BCCI can earn from the SALE of each franchise? The BCCI has listed 10 Indian cities and the venues in the tender, which allows a single party to bid for more than one city. There is no base price set, and bids will be accepted for a 10-year period (2023-32).

The BCCI will open the sealed bids on January 25 and will announce the winner of the franchises. January 23 is the deadline to submit the technical bids for evaluation, which the BCCI will conduct along with the Mumbai-based law firm Argus Partners.

The worth of the teams will be more than expected.

To begin with, now with the MEDIA RIGHTS Revenue for each franchise set at 25-30 CRORE – 300 crore easily can be the BASE-REVENUE from each franchise.

The number can go upto 500-600 CR depending on competition for the city potential bidders will be bidding for.

Manchester United Owners also interested: Manchester United football club owners Glazer Family is desperate to enter Indian cricket market. After failing to acquire IPL franchise last time, they are now determined to land a Women’s IPL team. The Glazer family has made its foray into cricket after acquiring Desert Vipers franchise in ILT20 league.

However, they refused to reveal whether they have picked up bid documents for WIPL franchise. BCCI will make the official announcement on January 25 following WIPL team auction.

“Having bought into the ILT20, it is natural for us to look into other cricket opportunities around the world, including Women’s IPL,” Phil Oliver, CEO of Desert Vipers, told Cricbuzz.

Purchasing a bid document or Invitation to Tender is a must for purchasing a side in IPL or WIPL. However, InsideSport can confirm that Chennai Super Kings and multiple IPL teams have purchased bid documents for WIPL teams. January 21 is the last day to purchase ITT for WIPL.

“I can’t reveal the details of how far we are in that process but I am happy to say that we are looking into all opportunities, including the WIPL. The India market is of interest to us. A lot of Indian cricket fans will be watching this tournament and will see what the Desert Vipers will bring to that. If anything, we want to bring an exciting brand of cricket to the Indian fans, just as to our fans all around the world,” Oliver said.

Glazer Family unsuccessfully bid for both Lucknow and Ahmedabad franchises in 2021. However, they lost out to eventual winners CVC Capitals (Ahmedabad) and RPSG Group (Lucknow).

How will the bids be evaluated?

Among the eligibility criteria listed in the tender document, the BCCI has said the audited net worth of the bidder must be at least INR 1000 crore as of March 31, 2022.

Consortiums or joint-ventures companies, the BCCI has said, are not eligible.

The BCCI has included a key clause in the selection of the winning bid, saying it would not be “obliged to accept highest monetary offer”. This is similar to the clause the ICC had laid down when it sold media rights for women’s global events for the 2023-27 period last year.

The BCCI has stated it will look at the vision bidders have towards enhancing the profile and accelerating the growth of women’s cricket in India.

Listing the objectives it desired in a potential successful bidder, the BCCI said:

“establishing a stable, successful, financially secure, long-term Franchise to participate in the League; ensuring the widest coverage and the widest possible audience for the League; assisting in the development of the game of women’s cricket in India at all levels; maximizing and enhancing exposure, wherever possible, for each of the official sponsors of the League; increasing and enhancing exposure for women’s cricket in India both within India and the rest of the world.”

The BCCI has earmarked March as the window for the WIPL in the tender. While the BCCI has not formally announced the dates for the inaugural season, it is expected to start around March 5 and finish around March 23.
