On minute, Gabriel Martinelli was quickly closing in, and Lloris took too long to clear his lines, giving Spurs a scare. After Martinelli flicked the ball on, Eddie Nketiah won it, but the striker could only shoot at Lloris. Arsenal took the lead on 14 minutes thanks to an own goal by France goalkeeper Lloris after Antonio Conte’s team and Lloris in particular failed to heed the warnings of their poor start.
Bukayo Saka was clear on the left after Thomas Partey lobbed a long ball over the top. The comparatively harmless cross from the 21-year-old was deflected over the goal line and into the writhing Lloris’ torso. Arsenal had not defeated their north London rivals away from home since 2015, but they were ruthless in their first-half performance and pounded the hosts’ backline with wave after wave of raids.

Partey’s magnificent volley from outside the box against the right post came just inches away from giving Mikel Arteta’s team a double advantage. Odegaard scored in dramatic fashion for the eighth time this season after 36 minutes as a result of the visitors’ constant pressure. Arsenal had Spurs beat in every way, and when Saka found space on the right again, he passed the ball to an open Odegaard in the middle. Odegaard took his time before launching a low shot from 20 yards out into the far corner.
On the brink of halftime, Harry Kane forced Aaron Ramsdale into a save as Spurs fought for their second opportunity on goal. This season, Conte’s team has consistently been saved by strong second-half efforts, and they got right to work right after the break. Ryan Sessegnon’s shot from a difficult angle was also stopped by Ramsdale after Kane saw his attempt superbly saved by the goalkeeper.
However, despite some late pressure, Arsenal’s defence held firm and kept the hosts at bay while Spurs’ attacking surges went unfinished.
Arsenal leads the Premier League with 47 points after 18 games, taking advantage of Manchester City’s Saturday loss at Manchester United to increase their advantage.
