Malaysia Open Badminton: ‘It’s really odd’- HS Prannoy hits out at BWF Software after Lakshya Sen draw in Malaysian Open – Check why?

HS Prannoy is gearing up for the new season of the BWF Tour in 2023. The 30-year-old made deep runs in several tournaments in 2022 that made him finish the year as the World No.8.

Speaking on the eve of his Malaysia Open contest on Twitter Spaces, Prannoy said, “It’s really odd. You are travelling to biggest tournaments and you are running into your own teammate. I have faced him numerous times in the past. It’s been pretty much common in the last six month to be honest.”

Prannoy continued to take dig at the software used by the BWF to pick the draws. “It’s not only me, but a lot of players have played against each other in a particular year. That’s how the software is set. I think they need to update it.”

Prannoy is however ready for the challenge against Lakshya Sen, “You don’t have any other option. You just have to put your head down and work. That’s what we have been doing. We will continue to do it tomorrow and the next week as well. Lakshya has been a guy who has drastically improved. It’s always a tough contest against him.”

Prannoy is coming off after a fantastic season in 2022. At the start of the year, the shuttler from Kerala was ranked World No.26. He went on to improve his rankings and broke into the Top 10 for the second time in his career. “2022 was really good. A lot of good things happened  for me both professionally and personally in the year,” he quipped.

Speaking about his challenges and goals for the upcoming year, he added, “At the start of 2022 the challenges were different compared to what I am facing now. Now there is much more expectation from fans, coaches saying now it’s time to win big tournaments.”

“Personally, I have always kept goals really low. For me the important thing will be on process. I am not going to play more tournaments for the first few moths until May.  I’ll try to focus more on my training in Hyderabad. Selecting the tournaments will be the key this year and I am going to do it,” he signed off.
