During the post match presentation, Kohli said that he was excited for the home season to start. The century in Guwahati was Kohli’s 73rd one helping him equal Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 20 centuries at home. Kohli took just 101 matches to reach the landmark.
During the post match interview Kohli thanked his luck after scoring the landmark century. He said, “I have had a bit of break, and a couple of practice sessions coming into this game, so I was fresh after that Bangladesh tour. I was excited for the home season to start. The openers allowed me to get into the game and I tried to keep my strike rate in check. I was happy I was able to maintain the tempo and we finished with 370″.

He added, “I would take those (dropped chances) any day. Luck plays a big part, you need to thank god on such evenings. These evenings are important, pretty aware of that. Thankful that I made the most of that luck presented to me. I helped the team get 20 runs extra, rather than 350. It’s going to be the same thing. Someone will have to score a 150, or 140 to chase this down. But it also gives our bowlers a chance to bowl with dew coming into play”.

Kohli’s century at Guwahati was also his 9th ton against Sri Lanka. He has the same number of tally against West Indies in ODI cricket. He now holds the record of being the only ever batter to have nine or more tons against two oppositions in the format. Kohli ended his ODI century drought against Bangladesh last year after remaining century-less for 1214 days. The century in Bangladesh also helped former India skipper overtake Australia legend Ricky Ponting.
After struggling for form for good two years, Virat Kohli is looking to make up for the lost time. He has now two back-to-back hundreds in ODIs, an indication that he might be back to his very best, especially in ODIs. Kohli loves batting in ODIs and this being the World Cup year, augers well for Indian cricket.
