There is no question when it comes to skill, but a few eyebrows are raised about Rohit Sharma’s fitness. The Indian captain returns after another injury layoff during the ODI series against SriLanka. With this being a World Cup year, Rohit will aim to play as many games as he can, to be in the groove when the tournament beckons.
However, his injury troubles have troubled him of late. Since the turn of 2022, Rohit has missed out on a plethora of games. The absences come despite the 35-year-old missing series in between as part of the Rotation policy. The Men in Blue have played 68 games, with Rohit playing only 39 games. He has missed important games, including the tour of SouthAfrica and the 5th Test at Edgbaston.
Rohit Sharma Fitness: Games Rohit Sharma missed due to injury since 2022
- India tour of South Africa – Full Series (3 tests, 3 ODIs)
- Edgbaston Test, India tour of England
- India tour of Bangladesh – (2 ODIs, 2 tests)
- T20 series, India vs SriLanka
Rohit’s injury troubles have meant that India has often had KL Rahul leading the side in his absence. Hardik Pandya captained in T20Is against SriLanka. Such absences have raised doubts over his sustainability, with former India captain Kapil Dev being one of the many unsettled.
“There’s no shortcoming in Rohit Sharma. He has everything but I personally think, there is a huge question mark over his fitness. Is he fit enough? Because a captain should be someone who motivates the other players to get fitter, the teammates should feel proud of their captain,” Kapil said on ABP News.
