On Tuesday, January 10, the first ODI between India and Sri Lanka will take place at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. Ahead of the series, Rohit Sharma has to make some tough calls. Among them is whether to go for SKY or not.
SuryaKumar Yadav is the world’s best T20 batter but even he is struggling to find a place in India’s line-up in ODIs. That is courtesy of only one man Shreyas Iyer.
Shreyas Iyer had a great year in ODIs in 2022, scoring 724 runs from 17 games. He scored one century and six half-centuries while averaging 55.69. Iyer’s bat will be expected to produce more fire in 2023 by the Indian supporters.
SuryaKumar Yadav or Shreyas Iyer
There are currently huge stakes for Team India’s No. 4 spot. Before the World Cup, Shreyas Iyer and SuryaKumar Yadav, two of India’s top recent white-ball players, are vying for the No. 4 place.
On one side, there is SKY, whose valour enabled India to win the T20I series against Sri Lanka.
It was a case of the same Suryakumar Yadav and the new year. By scoring a stunning century in Rajkot off just 45 balls, the guy known as SKY maintained his fantastic form that began in 2022.
Shreyas Iyer, who is yet to play in 2023, was a revelation in 2022, particularly in ODIs. He led India in both ODI and international cricket scoring. He was also the top scorer for Men in Blue.

The 28-year-old made the most of his opportunities despite having trouble securing regular playing time, scoring runs in all three formats, with ODIs being his most successful format in which he tallied 724 runs in 15 innings.
While SKY scored 1,164 runs in 31 innings in the shortest format in 2022, he didn’t play red-ball cricket, which had a significant negative impact on his overall numbers.
