Arshdeep Singh NO-BALLS: Last time when Arshdeep Singh was on the field, he had an off day – to say the least – after returning from an illness. Indian speedster bowled 5 no-balls in IND vs SL 2nd T20I, resulting in deserved criticism from fans and experts. But ahead of the series decider, the young bowler got valuable advice from his childhood coach. Jaswant Rai believes that in order to prevent no-ball hiccups, Arshdeep must concentrate on his footwork and rhythm. Follow India vs SriLanka LIVE updates with InsideSport.IN

“Arshdeep just needs to focus on his steps right now,” Rai told TOI.

“He needs to maintain his rhythm. He was not looking in rhythm in the second T20I. The no-ball happened because of lack of practice. We (Arshdeep and I) will discuss this soon. I am sure he will improve on this.”

With Hardik Pandya dubbing 5 No-Balls as a crime, the young left-arm pacer can be dropped from the Playing XI for the 3rd and final T20 in Rajkot on Saturday.

Arshdeep No-Balls had India on the backfoot in the 2nd T20I. The youngster bowled a record five no-balls in the entire match including a hat-trick of no-balls. Even though he found support in coach Rahul Dravid, captain Hardik Pandya wasn’t happy. He minced no words, dubbing it as a “crime” as it has been his problem in his international career.

The young left-arm bowler may be dropped from the playing XI for the third and final T20 in Rajkot on Saturday. Notably, Hardik Pandya labeled five no-balls as a crime.

India was always on the back foot in the second T20I because of Arshdeep Singh’s no-balls. In the entire game, the young bowler set a record with five no-balls, including a hat-trick of them.

Even though he had Rahul Dravid’s support, captain Hardik Pandya wasn’t content. He didn’t hold back, calling no-balls a “crime” because it has been a problem for Arshdeep throughout his international career.

Advice for Arshdeep Singh

Arshdeep made matters worse by surrendering 37 runs in just two overs. He conceded 19 runs in the opening over, causing Hardik to pull him from the game until the 19th over. Hardik would be tempted to employ both Mukesh Kumar and Kuldeep Yadav in Rajkot because neither player has yet appeared in the series.

“The major and the biggest problem behind a pacer bowling a no-ball is his run-up,” Rai continued his assessment during his conversation with TOI.

“When a bowler marks his run-up, he sometimes loses focus on his steps and bowls a no-ball. To maintain uniformity, a bowler needs to practice a lot in terms of run-up to avoid bowling no-balls. He has to measure the run-up properly before bowling…maintain one rhythm and keep checking whether you are overstepping or not.”

“The problem with Arshdeep is that he used to run diagonally and because of that he used to enter the danger zone (in follow-through). He did this on many occasions during the IPL. We sat together and worked on his run-up. He started running perfectly then. But if you start running too straight, then also you are bound to overstep.”

“A bowler needs to focus on his run-up, steps, speed, line, length and rhythm all at the same time while bowling. It is tough and takes time but with experience you get used to of it,” the coach added.

India’s squad for Sri Lanka T20Is: Hardik Pandya (Captain), Ishan Kishan (wk), Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shubman Gill, Suryakumar Yadav (VC), Deepak Hooda, Rahul Tripathi, Sanju Samson, Washington Sundar, Yuzvendra Chahal, Axar Patel, Arshdeep Singh, Harshal Patel, Umran Malik, Shivam Mavi, Mukesh Kumar, Jitesh Sharma
