Team India gear up for Sri Lanka challenge in ODI
The ODI series will get underway on January 10th with the first match set to be played at Guwahati. The series will witness the return of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and KL Rahul back to the team. The trio was rested for the T20I series. The Men in Blue will also welcome Jasprit Bumrah. Currently, Rohit is nursing a finger injury but is expected to be back in time for the ODI series. Bumrah on the other hand was included in the Sri Lanka series after being declared fit by National Cricket Academy (NCA). Despite the return of the ‘big four’ the ODI series against Sri Lanka will not be easy.

The Dasun Shanaka-led team has lethal spinners in their ranks who can trouble the strong Indian batting lineup in their home conditions. The last time Sri Lanka toured India was last year in February and March. The men in blue won the T20I and Test series. The recent meeting between both teams was during the Asia Cup in Dubai. Sri Lanka won the match by 6 wickets and also went to lift the Asia Cup title beating Pakistan in the final.
Sri Lanka aim for World Cup spot
The upcoming ODI series will give Sri Lanka the chance to bolster their chance of qualifying for the ODI World Cup in October. India gained direct qualification for World Cup due to being the host nation. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka is just one place outside the automatic qualification spot (9th) behind West Indies. Since only the top 8 teams will gain an automatic qualification the Lankan’s have to win all their remaining matches to stand any chance for direct entry.
