India vs SriLanka Sponsors: It is worth noting that the broadcaster is paying 60.01 Cr per match to the BCCI as RIGHTS fee for the series. But they will only be able to recoup 30-40% of these amounts from advertising, affiliate sales and subscription.

The broadcaster will lose almost 200 Crore from the series.

“1st series after new year always has been below-par. As most of the advertisers, agencies shy away from investments. But what is happening with this series is unprecedented. Just imagine, not even 1 single advertiser was their on Hotstar in 1st T20. Even on LIVE Broadcast only 15-20% inventory is sold”, said an informed insider in Disney Star.

Not only the ON-AIR Advertising but the ON-GROUND sponsorship is also seeing downfall for the 1st series of 2023. Before the start of the series, BCCI also has lost their JERSEY PARTNER MPL.

The trend overall clearly indicates waning interest of advertisers on the BILATERAL SERIES.

IND vs SL LIVE – BCCI New Jersey Sponsor: The Indian Cricket team spotted new team jersey for 1st T20 vs SriLanka in Mumbai on Tuesday. The team’s JERSEY RIGHTS have exchanged hands from MPL to Kewal Kiran Clothing Limited (Brand Killer).

The board during the BCCI Apex council meeting had declared no sponsorship right will passed to any other brand till March. But contrary to that team spotted KILLER BRANDED jersey in SriLanka series as MPL has hastily exited the deal.

BCCI New Jersey Sponsor: In the last six months, BCCI has lost three big companies as its sponsors. PayTM, which owned BCCI;s domestic rights, transferred it to Mastercard. Earlier this month, Byju’s informed BCCI that it would exit before the contract ends. Now, MPL also has exited the sponsorship deal with the BCCI.

The mobile gaming company has handed over the the rights to Kewal Kiran Clothing Limited (KKCL), the parent company of Killer Jeans.

BCCI-MPL Sponsorship: The contract between BCCI and MPL was valid until December 31, 2023. MPL had replaced Nike back in November 2020. But now, with the slowdown of the market, it has exited the deal after GREEN SIGNAL from the board.

“BCCI received an email communication from MPL sports on 2.12.2022 seeking a complete assignment (team + merchandising) at full value to Kewal Kiran Clothing Limited, a fashion wear brand, for the period from 1.12.2023 to 31.12.2023.

“With the upcoming back-to-back home series and the women’s away calendar, it was suggested that the current arrangement should not be hampered as it involves performance gear for the national teams.

“We had asked MPL sports to continue the association at least until 31.3.2023 or look for a partial assignment that would involve only the right chest logo but not the kit manufacturing agreement,” the note read.

Byju’s to exit in March: It is worth noting that Byju’s had surprsingly extended its deal with the BCCI until 2023-end for $55 million. Now the troubled edtech compnay wants to exit by March 2023.

Its original deal term with the BCCI expired in March 2022. As per the new between the BCCI and Byju’s, the edtech major is roughly paying 10% more than what Oppo was paying on a per-match basis.

The Byju Raveendran-led unicorn is looking to aggressively cut costs with demand for edtech services moderating after two consecutive years of hypergrowth.

“BCCI received an email from Byju’s on 4.11.2022 requesting terminating the association post the recently concluded T20 World Cup. As per our discussions with Byju’s, we have asked them to continue the current arrangement and continue the partnership at least until 31.3.2023,” read a BCCI note on the matter.
