Samson failed to make the most of the dropped opportunity
Facing off-spinner Madushanka, Samson was dropped earlier in the over as he tried to hoick the ball over the long-on boundary, but he got lucky as the fielder failed to collect the ball cleanly. However, Samson did not learnt from his mistake. The right-handed batter again tried a big leg-side hoick to a delivery on off-stump, but managed to just toe-end it giving an easy catch to short third man. Even veteran Sunil Gavaskar was not impressed with Samson’s shot selection and lashed out heavily at the youngster.
Samson has ordinary numbers in T20Is
Despite getting a lot of backing from the experts, fans and cricket pundits, Samson has not been able to show his best whether be IPL or in the international arena. To note, Samson was dropped from India’s T20I squad against NewZealand, but selectors restored their faith on Samson and included him in the Indian squad against SriLanka.
Speaking about Samson’s numbers in T20Is, the 28-year-old has played 17 matches and has managed to amass just 301 runs at an average of 20. Even though he plays at a strike rate of 133.78, the wicketkeeper-batter has just one fifty to his name in 20-over format.
