Pele’s funeral will be conducted just outside of Sao Paulo, at Vila Belmiro Stadium, the home of Santos Football Club. The funeral service will be held on Monday and Tuesday.
Before a procession through the streets of Santos to honour the icon, his casket will be left on the field for fans to pay their respects for 24 hours.
The procession will proceed past Canal 6, where Pele’s mother resides, and WILL continue to Memorial Necropole Ecumenica, a distinctive “vertical cemetery,” where he will be interred in privacy with other family members.
The funeral will start at 10 am local time (6:30 IST) on January 2nd and last for 24 hours until 10 am local time on January 3rd.

The permanently illuminated Memorial Necropole Ecumenica, in Santos, near Sao Paulo, Brazil, is 14 storeys high, and occupies an area of 1.8 ha (4.4 acres). Its construction started in March 1983 and the first burial was on 28 July 1984.
According to the Guinness Book of World Records, it has 14 stories and 14,000 vaults, making it the world’s tallest vertical cemetery. It is situated between large buildings and verdant trees.
It has even become a tourist attraction in its own right.
