ATK Mohungan and Mohun Bagan AC also took to twitter to share their consoles. Mohun Bgan AC has connection to Pele which dates back to 1977 when the player played a friendly against them for Cosmos FC.

“Rest in peace, Pele. We send our deepest condolences to his family and all those close to him following his sad passing. We had the privilege of hosting the King of Football in 1977, at Eden Gardens — a memory we will always cherish.” the tweet from ATK Mohun Bgan read.

He was competing at the time for the New York Cosmos club and faced Mohun Bagan in a friendly match. Match score: 2-2. The Eden Gardens were filled for the game. While Carlos Alberto Torres scored the game’s first goal in the 17th minute with 75,000 spectators watching the King of Football, Pele assisted on the goal.

Kerala Blasters also took to their socials to share their thought and condolences, “A true embodiment of ‘Jogo Bonito’, thank you for everything you’ve given to the beautiful game. Rest in Peace, Pelé 🙏” the tweet read.

pele had most recently visited India as well back in 2015 when he came to stay on a 3-day tour 38 years after 1977. He was presented with the official jersey of formerly Atletico de Kolkata by the likes of Saurav Ganguly and  Sanjeev Goenka.

The illustrious Brazilian footballer proposed a remedy to save Indian football from its current predicament, stating that the sport should be incorporated into local children’s upbringing while also ensuring that talented players receive the most exposure abroad. In fact, his 75th birthday was celebrated at the same time.
