1) Lionel Messi finally fulfils his dream: Following the heartbreak in 2014, Argentina once again came close to losing the final in extra time. However, Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez made an outstanding save to take the match to penalties. Argentina went onto win the match 4-2 on penalties. The picture of the Argentine skipper kissing the trophy with the golden ball in his hands is no doubt the most iconic picture from the final.
2) Kylian Mbappe one man in the 2022 World Cup final: The young forward single handedly kept France alive in the final with a stunning hattrick. Kylian Mbappe scored a brace during the second half. He completed his hattrick in the extra time from penalty spot. The top goal scorer at the World Cup became only the second man in football history to achieve the feat on the big stage.
3) Morocco’s Cinderella run at the FIFA World Cup 2022: Morocco had one of the most exciting FIFA World Cup runs in their footballing history. The Atlas Lions were the biggest success story at this years edition. Morocco finished fourth in the competition after losing to Croatia 1-2 in the third-place play-off. They became the first African team to reach the last four.
4) Cristiano Ronaldo makes tearful exit: The Portugal skipper was relegated to bench during the knockout stage matches. Against Morocco Ronaldo started from bench. Portugal were expected to get past Morocco and make it through the semi-final but they lost the match 0-1. The ex-Manchester United striker failed to save the team and made an exit to the locker room in tears.
5) Saudi Arabia’s win over Argentina: Saudi Arabia produced the biggest shock of the World Cup with a 2-1 win over eventual champions Argentina. Argentina were carrying a 36-game unbeaten streak into the match. Despite the odds stacked against the Asian nation, Saudi’s emerged winners. Saudi Arabia’s win led to widespread celebrations in Saudi Arabia and many other parts of the world.

6) Japan gets better of Germany: Asian giants Japan created the second biggest upset of the FIFA World Cup. After being down 0-1 at half time, Japan team turned things around thanks to goals from substitutes Ritsu Dōan and forward Takuma Asano. The two second-half goals changed the course of the game and the rest they say is history.
7) Cristiano Ronaldo’s false claim for a header: Portugal team skipper Cristiano Ronaldo was involved in brief controversy which saw claiming a header goal. The goal came at the 54th minute when Bruno Fernandes, made a cross into the box. It looked like, Ronaldo managed to get the his head onto the ball. However, his celebration came to at halt with the scoreboard giving the credit to Fernandes.
8) German players stage protest against ‘One Love’ armband: Before the start of Germany vs Japan match, German players covered their mouths during their team photo as mark of protest. The players protested about their captain, Manuel Neuer being denied permission to wear the ‘OneLove’ armband. Not only Neuer, the captains of the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, France, England, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland and Wales, were reportedly set to wear the One Love armband
9) Argentina’s match against Netherlands turns into a battlefield: The feisty encounter between both the nation witnessed record number of cards been dished out by referee. The “Battle of Lusail,” will be remembered for the record 18 yellow cards and one red card. It was also the first time that at any World Cup, 15 players on the field were given card.
10) Vincent Aboubakar helps Cameroon stuns Brazil, gets red card : After Japan and Saudi Arabia, it was Cameroon’s time to make history at FIFA World Cup. The country became the first African nation to beat Brazil in World Cup. Skipper Vincent Aboubakar, scored the all important goal in the 92nd minute. Following the celebration, Cameroon forward was given a red card for removing his shirt.
