IPL 2023 Auction LIVE: RCB, CSK look for quick fix as Wanindu Hasaranga, Maheesh Theekshana set to miss first few games to SriLanka commitments – Check details
The likes of Adil Rashid, Adam Zampa and Mujeeb Ur Rahman will see further interest in their services with CSK and RCB joining the race for a specialist spinner. RCB have relied heavily on Wanindu Hasaranga, releasing Adam Zampa into the pool. The Sri Lankan delivered with 26 wickets, one behind Purple Cap winner Yuzvendra Chahal.
Hasaranga’s SriLankan teammate Maheesh Theekshana also impressed in his maiden IPL season. The mystery finger spinner has become a key part of MS Dhoni’s plans. He will be handy on helpful Indian surfaces. However, like RCB, CSK do not have c0ver, with Prashant Solanki being the other spinner on the side.
Now, both teams have been thrown into a lurch with BCCI confirming SriLankan players will not be available for the first week of action. The two spinners have international commitments and will be available on after April 8. Thus, both Theekshana and Hasaranga could miss 2-3 games early in the season.
“Players selected for Ireland series will be available from 8 April to 1 May,” the mail says. The Sri Lankan players, the BCCI notes, will come from April 8, which means a team like Royal Challengers Bangalore will have to do without their key bowler Wanindu Hasaranga for the first few games.
