IPL 2023 Auction: Raina believes Mohammad’s wicket-taking abilities and mystery element will lure IPL teams
No one knows about Mohammad’s strengths and weaknesses yet, as there is a mystery element attached to him. IPL is all exciting new talent coming up and setting the stage on fire. Raina believes this mystery surrounding Mohammad will lure IPL franchises into buying him. The Afghanistan off-spinner is also a wicket-taker, as picked up five wickets in only two matches in Shapageeza League.
Mohammad is looking forward to the IPL experience as he opines his game will improve a lot by rubbings shoulders with the best.
“I have played a fair bit of junior cricket, and my ultimate target is to play for Afghanistan. The IPL will help me improve my game as I would be able to learn quite a few things from the Indian and overseas players, and I am really looking forward to the experience. I hope to get picked by a franchise,” he said.
Apart from Mohammad, Raina also believes Mujtaba Yousuf and Samarth Vyas are the two Indian players to watch out for in the IPL mini-auction. Vyas is a hard-hitting Saurashtra batter, who can bang from ball one. While Mujtaba is a left-arm fast bowler from Jammu & Kashmir who can swing the ball both ways.
Raina said, “I played with Mujtaba (Yousuf) in the Syed Mushtaq Ali. As a left-arm fast bowler, he has good action and good control on swing. Then you have Samarth Vyas from Saurashtra, who has scored at a strike rate of over 150 and was among the top five run-getters in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and just won the Vijay Hazare Trophy. He is a very good future prospect.
