What’s in store for Pakistan Cricket?

  • As per the sources, the Prime Minister’s Office will release four notifications related to the appointment.
  • One notification will be issued notifying the abolishment of the 2019 constitution of the cricket board.
  • The other notification will then notify the termination of the two names nominated for the chairmanship under the 2019 constitution.
  • The third notification will then announce the restoration of the 2014 constitution.
  • The fourth notification will then notify the establishment of a “setup” to run the existing board.

The current PCB Chairman Ramiz Raja’s tenure is likely to meet a premature end. Earlier, there have been reports of Raja’s replacement as the PCB chairman. He had rejected the claims and maintained he is still the PCB chief and will not step down.

After England beat Pakistan 3-0 in the home Test series, rumours of Ramiz Raja stepping down as the chief started circulating. It is also reported that the incumbent government had decided to sack the current PCB chairman. Raja has assured that he has got a go ahead from the current government to continue working for the betterment of Pakistan cricket.

“I have been told to continue working as [the] PCB chairman,” Raja had told PCB staffers.

On September 13, 2021, while the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government was in power, the former Pakistan captain was elected without opposition as the chairman of the cricket body. Ehsan Mani’s resignation following the conclusion of his three-year term left the top position on the PCB empty.

With the on-field results not going their way, PCB Chairman Ramiz Raja finds himself on a sticky wicket, from his own countrymen trying to bowl bouncers, and gunning for his head.
