Although several fighters like Demetrius Andrade and Dmitry Bivol are considered to be better opponents for Alvarez, the Mexican boxer seems to have picked ‘The Gorilla’ Ryder among all.

Revealing his 2-23 plans, Canelo Alvarez said, “It would be interesting to fight him in London. It would be very big. But the truth is I have not negotiated an opponent yet. I’m focussed on the rehab of my hand, see how I feel in January, and see what the doctor tells me.”

Having beaten Gennadiy Golovkin in his last outing, Canelo Alvarez may not quit the 168 lbs category soon. However, he has already faced backlash in opting to face John Ryder. Here’s how social media reacted to Canelo Alvarez’s 2023 wish.

After Canelo’s maiden boxing loss against Floyd Mayweather, he seemed invincible until Dmitry Bivol handed the Mexican his second professional defeat. Bivol beat Alvarez in a 12-rounds war and defended his 175 lbs world title in style. Canelo Alvarez claimed to rematch Bivol somewhere down the line, but there might have been a change in his plans.

Boxing News: How did 2022 turn out for Canelo Alvarez?

After a splendid 2021, Canelo Alvarez moved up to the light heavyweight category for his first fight of 2022 against WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol. Despite Bivol coming up as an undefeated champion, several fans still saw as an underdog him. Not many people envisioned Canelo Alvarez losing the fight.

However, Bivol introduced the boxing world to a harsh reality and manhandled his Mexican nemesis throughout the night. Dmitry Bivol utilized his range and speed which Canelo Alvarez couldn’t tackle. Following the win, Bivol vanquished ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez and seems eligible to re-match Canelo, but the Mexican boxer can play out something differently in 2023.
