IPL 2023 Auction: OLDEST player at IPL Auction, OLD-GUN Amit Mishra still HOPEFUL of impressing franchises at Auction, says ‘I’ve two-three years of cricket left in me’
IPL 2023 AuctionI have 2-3 years of cricket left in me: Amit Mishra on his career
“I have some 2-3 years of cricket left in me. I am keeping myself fit and my performance in domestic cricket last and this season have not been bad either. I am hopeful to be bought by a franchise (at this week’s IPL auction),” said Mishra.
Mishra is the third-highest leading wicket-taker in the IPL. As a result, franchises may show interest in getting him on board. In 244 T20 matches he played so far in his career, the 40-year-old has picked up 272 wickets at an economy of 7.14. Now, given his record and impact on spin-friendly tracks, Mishra can be in demand in the auction room.
Mishra had decent stint with the national squad. The leg-spinner represented India in 22 Tests, 36 ODIs, and 10 T20. However, his best came in IPL as he became the first bowler to claim three hat-tricks in the franchise-based tournament.
“Just look at the IPL. I being a leg spinner, along with Yuzvendra Chahal are the two most successful Indian bowlers in IPL history. So why not have more opportunities for the leg spinners in all formats of the game. India has a big pool of leg spinners. We have quality spinners in domestic cricket. I do not want to take names but there are more than half a dozen leggies who have the potential to get into the Indian side,” Mishra added.
