Brazil named an unchanged line-up from the last 16 for their World Cup quarter-final against Croatia on Friday, with first-choice left back Alex Sandro on the bench due to an injury. Danilo will start on the left side of defence once again, with Real Madrid centre back Eder Militao, who replaced Danilo at right back against Switzerland and played in the South Korea game, to play the same role against Croatia. Croatia coach Zlatko Dalic made two changes to his lineup, with Borna Sosa returning after missing their last 16 match against Japan due to sickness, and attacker Bruno Petkovic making way for Mario Pasalic to reinforce the midfield.

Brazil and Croatia were tied at 0-0 at the break.Brazil started on a dominating note against Croatia. The Selecao hurled continuous attacks from early on. The most prominent early chance came through  Vinicius. Vinicius Jr’s 25-yard shot across goal was just slightly too central, allowing Dominik Livakovic to make a simple save. There was nothing between the Brazilians and their 2018 runner-up opponents, with both teams having half chances in a free-flowing encounter. Croatia had the finest chance of the half after 13 minutes when Ivan Perisic miscued a whipped Mario Pasalic cross past Alisson’s goalpost.

Brazil came out of the break with the intensity that had been lacking in the first half, creating six scoring chances, three of which came from Neymar. However, they were unable to beat Croatian keeper Dominik Livakovic, who made several crucial saves. The sides were lock at 0-0 at the ned of the regulated time.

Brazil took the lead in the last minute of the first half of extra time as Neymar scored his record-tying 77th goal. He equaled Pele’s all-time goal scoring record for Brazil. He gathered on the box’s edge and played a one-two with Paqueta. After overcoming a block, Neymar went around Livakovic before blasting his effort into the back of the net.

The chequered ones scored with their first shot on goal. We appear to be going for a penalty shootout. Orsic received the ball on the left flank and sent it to Petkovic near the box’s edge. Petkovic took a touch before unleashing a left-footed strike on goal. Thiago Silva deflected it away from Alisson and into the bottom-left corner. The game headed into penalties!

Croatia defeated Brazil in a shootout 4-2 on Friday after their World Cup quarter-final ended 1-1. Dominik Livakovic stopped Rodrygo’s first penalty, while Marquinhos struck the post. Brazil seized a 1-0 lead after 90 minutes with a bit of extra time solo brilliance from Neymar, but tenacious Croatia refused to give up, with Bruno Petkovic equalising in the 117th minute to send the game to penalties. Croatia will now await the winner of the match between Argentina and the Netherlands, which will take place later on Friday.
