For the forthcoming two-Test match series against Bangladesh, which begins in Chattogram on December 14, India-A captain Abhimanyu Easwaran is expected to be called to replace injured senior skipper Rohit Sharma. Rohit, who bravely attempted to win the 2nd ODI match despite having a dislocated left thumb, is most likely going to miss the Test series.

“Abhimanyu Easwaran has scored back-to-back hundreds in the ongoing A Test series and is an opener. In all likelihood, he will join the squad in Chattogram after finishing his second A Test in Sylhet,” a senior BCCI source told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

Easwaran scored 141 in the first A Test and 157 in the second Test. While Easwaran could replace Rohit as the cover, stand-in skipper KL Rahul and the youngster Shubman Gill will start India’s innings in Chattogram and Dhaka. It is also understood that Umran Malik or Bengal seamer Mukesh Kumar, who has consistently performed for India A, might take Mohammad Shami’s spot who is currently injured.

India’s bowling appears to be badly depleted as Ravindra Jadeja, who hasn’t played a single match since undergoing knee surgery, will not be participating in the Test matches. Even though Axar Patel is already on the roster, Saurabh Kumar from the A team might be called upon as a backup left-arm spinner unless some creative thinking allows Suryakumar Yadav to enter the picture.

In Mumbai’s second Ranji Trophy match of the year, Surya has already said that he will participate.
