Doctors said on Tuesday, December 6, that Brazilian soccer legend Pele is improving. It’s been a week since the legend was brought to the hospital for treatment of a respiratory infection exacerbated by the lethal Covid-19. The veteran is expected to leave the hospital once he is fully recovered.

Considered by many the greatest footballer of all time, Pele “continues improving progressively, especially the respiratory infection” diagnosed after he checked in, his medical team said in a statement. His daughters and grandson had already stated that Pele needed to be rushed to the hospital. Pele, who has three World Cup victories to his name, is also taking chemotherapy as part of his cancer treatment. Pele had a colon tumour removed in September, but his family and hospital have been tight-lipped about the procedure.
