IPL Auction Rule Change: IPL set for 3 BIG Rule Changes as BCCI introduces impact player, increases Purse & brings home & away format back – Check details
1. Increased Purse
The IPL Auction on December 23 will see the highest purse afforded to teams. At the mega auction last year, each team was allowed a maximum spend of Rs 90 crore. This year, BCCI has added room for Rs 5 crore more taking it to a record Rs 95 crore. Teams have already made retentions and adjusted their budget accordingly, giving them more luxury to pursue their targets.

2. Impact Player
For the first time since IPL’s inception in 2008, there is a change in playing conditions. The BCCI has officially introduced the impact player rule, allowing a substitute player to make a contribution. The addition of the rule invites a change in strategy for teams. Franchises can now opt for strong cameo players and use them wisely.
3. Home Away format
All teams will play 18 fixtures as opposed to the 14 in a regular IPL season. The BCCI also reverts to the home and away format, with each tam playing 9 home games. The change allows teams to build according to the strengths of their home turf. CSK have often relied on the turning surface of Chepauk and used them in their favour. All teams could opt for a similar change in strategy at the auction table.
