Most Runs in a Test match: Batters set the stage on fire in Rawalpindi – The match started on a bright note for England, as many as four centuries were hit on day one. England finished day one on a record 506, which is the fifth highest on day one of a Test match. The Ben Stokes-led finished on a humongous 657. Babar Azam-led side responded fittingly by posting 579.

While the Test match seemed to be heading toward a draw, England attacked in the third innings and boldly declared on 264 setting Pakistan a target of 353. Bowlers had a torrid time in the middle as the pitch had nothing in for bowlers.

ENG vs PAK: Records broken in the Rawalpindi Test

England are now the first team to score 500 runs on the opening day of a Test. The record had previously belonged to Australia, who had scored 494 runs against South Africa in Sydney in 1910.

— England fell just three runs short of the record for most runs scored in any given day of a Test hosted in Asia; Sri Lanka, who scored 509 runs on Day 2 against Bangladesh at Colombo’s P Sara Oval, still holds that record.

— The 506 runs scored by England stand at the fifth spot in the record for most runs collected on any given day of a Test.

— The score of 506/4, however, is the highest score by an away team across any given day of a Test

– Two 200-plus stands registered by Pak and ENG opening batters also happened first ever in Test cricket.
