Mayanti works for Star Sports, the IPL and India’s domestic matches’ official broadcasters. And because of this BCCI ethics officer Vineet Saran has served a conflict of interest notice to BCCI President Roger Binny. Binny has been asked by Saran to respond in writing to the accusations made against him by December 20.
What are the charges? “You are hereby informed that a complaint has been received under Rule 39(2)(b) of the Rules and Regulations of BCCI by the Ethics Officer, BCCI for breach of Rule 38 (1) (i) and Rule 38(2) of the said rules, constituting an instance of “conflict of interest” on your part. You are directed to file your Written Response to the accompanying complaint on or before 20/12/2022. The said response should be supported by a duly executed affidavit,” Saran wrote in the notice dated November 21.
It will be intriguing to observe how things develop in BCCI in the wake of this notice. There is still time for Binny to send his response.

BCCI President Sourav Ganguly – The Dada of Conflicts of Interest
The former BCCI President was several times under the scanner for the conflicts of interest issue. Sourav Ganguly use to endorse Classplus, an educational coaching management company that competes with Byju’s, a major sponsor of the Indian team. He also supported My11Circle, a fantasy gaming company that was a rival of Dream11, the IPL 2020’s title sponsor.
The only time Ganguly faced some consequences for his actions was in 2021 when he was forced to resign from his role as Director at ATK Mohun Bagan (ISL team) in order to prevent any potential conflicts of interest with the apex cricketing body. RP Sanjiv Goenka Group, a colossal Kolkata-based corporation won the bid for the Lucknow IPL franchise for a record amount of Rs 7,090 crore.
Ganguly was accused of having a conflict of interest in 2019 too due to his roles as the president of the Cricket Association of Bengal, a TV commentator, and an advisor to the Delhi Capitals IPL franchise.
But in 2021, it was obvious that the Goenka family did not want their brand ambassador or their new IPL team to cause any humiliation.
Will Mayanti Langer really QUIT? It is very unlikely that either Roger Binny or Mayanti Langer will have to give up their respective jobs. Mayanti will continue to be the host for Star Sports as a packed home calendar and IPL awaits her.
