Pant has been struggling to score runs while Sanju Samson despite his good run of form has been forced to sit on the benches.
Pant’s scores haven’t been great off late. He has registered scores of 15, 125, 0, 56, & 18 are the scores Pant in the last five ODIs. While his ODI numbers are marginally better in T20Is, it is the consistency that he has lacked.
Pant has struggled for runs in white-ball formatOverall, in 11 ODIs in 2022, the southpaw has scored 213 runs. In between one few big scores, there is always a lean patch and a needless shot that makes experts and fans frustrated. In the first ODI against New Zealand, Pant played an unnecessary pull shot after doing all the hard work to reach 15 runs.
However, before the start of the game, pant showed a lot of confidence while talking to Harsha Bhogle. He took a dig at his critics who has been after his life for some time now.
I don’t have a bad record in white-ball cricket. I’m just 24 at the time. There is no down time now, with us travelling to Bangladesh directly from here!” Pant said before the start of the match.
Cricket experts and former cricketers have been highly critical of Pant’s recent failures. What’s even more surprising is the team management’s reluctance to include Samson. The Kerala skipper was a part of the 1st ODI but was dropped from the 2nd ODI and wasn’t given a chance in the final XI in Christchurch too.
The fans have been asking, requesting and pleading to the team management to include Sanju Samson in the playing XI.
It doesn’t seem to both the team management, as Samson continues to warm the benches, with a smile on his face. What else can he do?
