Team management will likely select Umran Malik for India vs. New Zealand’s first ODI because he didn’t play in the T20 series. Kuldeep Sen is also an option but he might go untested.
Umran Malik was called back into the India team. However, he did not play in the T20 series. Arshdeep Singh, however, participated in both games in addition to the recently concluded T20 World Cup. In the absence of the seniors, VVS Laxman would like to try express pacer Umran even though Arshdeep is the favoured option going forward.
Umran will also have an edge because Team India would prefer to rest Arshdeep in view of his recent workload.
- India will be with just five specialist bowlers and no sixth bowling option.
- With Deepak Chahar set to return, India will go with a three-man pace attack with Kul-Cha (Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvebndra Chahal) as spinners.
- Apart from Chahar and Umran, Shardul Thakur will be the third seamer.
- Both Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal are India’s designated wrist spinners.
