After his victory, his coach Goran Ivanisevic said he will continue to improve and shed light on the Serbian’s hunger to win titles. “He’s practicing even harder than he when he was 22. That’s why he’s still so good and that’s why he’s still going to be even better. The will to practice, the will to improve, the will to be better is amazing.”

The 21-time Grand Slam champion had a tough time this season as he was not allowed to participate in two major Grand Slam events – the Australian Open and the US Open due to his non-vaccination status. He clinched the title at Wimbledon but it didn’t help him in any way since ranking points were stripped of the tournament. This made him drop down to World No.8 in the rankings.

However, with a hunger to finish the year on a high, Djokovic won two successive titles at the Tel Aviv Open and Astana Open. He also finished as runner-up at the Paris Masters and being the seventh seed, he dominated in the ATP Tour Finals and became the undefeated champion in the season-ending event.

With his sixth ATP Finals victory, Djokovic has equalled Roger Federer’s tally of titles in the season-ending event. He also became the oldest ever champion to lift the title, aged 35 years. Speaking on this, Ivanisevic added, “He’s taking care of his body. In my time we stop tennis with 30, 31. You were already old guy ready to leave. But now unbelievable.”

He also drew comparisons with Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal and said, ““Look at Roger couple years back. Look at Rafa. Look at him. They all talk about, yes, young players are coming. It’s great for the tennis. But he’s still hungry, he’s still winning the tournaments, playing unbelievable tennis. He’s still already thinking now about preparation for next season.”

Djokovic will kickstart his next season at the Australian Open after the Australian government overturned a visa ban that was imposed on him last year.
