IND vs NZ Live – Ravi Shastri on Rahul Dravid: Former head coach Ravi Shastri is unhappy with current head coach Rahul Dravid’s consistent absences from national duty. He has been vocal about his displeasure. After India’s semi-final loss to England in the recently concluded T20 World Cup in Australia, Dravid & Co decided to skip India’s tour of New Zealand. For the white-ball tour of New Zealand, NCA Director VVS Laxman has stepped into Dravid’s shoes. Follow INDIA vs NEWZALAND LIVE Updates with InsideSport.IN

A few key players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and others have also taken a break. However, Shastri believes that Dravid should spend more time with the new batch of young cricketers.

“I don’t believe in breaks. I want to understand my team and players, and then be in control of that team. What do you need that many breaks for, to be honest?,” Shastri said.

“You get your two-three months of the IPL, that’s enough for you to rest as a coach. But other times, I think a coach should be hands-on, whoever he is,” Ravi Shastri said during an interaction with journalists.

Ind vs NZ: Too many breaks for Rahul Dravid?

  • Rahul Dravid took over as the national head coach on October 18, 2021
  • The 49-year-old skipped India’s tour of the West Indies and Ireland in July 2022
  • Missed the opening game against Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2022 in the UAE, due to Covid-19.
  • Currently unavailable for the T20 and ODI series against New Zealand.

Shastri also believes that for India to do well in T20s in particular, they need to follow the England model. The former head coach wants the selectors to stick with the current crop of youngsters till the next T20 World Cup in 2024.

“I wouldn’t like to point out anything, but there’s an opportunity with this team in the future to identify roles for players, identify match-winners, and go pretty much on the template of England.”

“India have got a wealth of resources. And I think it can start from this tour. Because when you look at this team, it’s a fresh, young side. You can identify, you can groom and you can take this team ahead in two years’ time,” Shastri elaborated.
