The challenge for Bhuvneshwar will lie in his wicket-taking abilities after scalping only four wickets from as many matches in the marquee event. But that will only be one area of his concerns as he has looked a pale shadow of himself in the recent past. He will be up against the rising Indian fast bowlers like Arshdeep Singh, Umran Malik and Harshal Patel to save his place in the playing XI with the likes of India’s key fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah out-of-action due to injury.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar becomes the first Indian bowler to complete 50 dot balls in T20 World Cup 2022.
51 dot balls from 13.4 overs.

Incidentally, young Arsheep was the most successful bowler in the T20 World Cup 2022 and continues to learn quickly. He scalped 10 wickets from as many matches and could well be considered ahead of Bhuvneshwar in the forthcoming tournaments if he continues to disappoint.

Even though the odds have not favoured Bhuvneshwar in New Zealand, he will look to bank on his experience to produce some swinging movement in the T20I series. With the first game being washed out, the Meerut Express will look to be at his economical best on batting-friendly pitches in Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui and McLean Park, Napier.
Incidentally, Bhuvneshwar (10) has bowled the most maiden overs in the shortest format with the likes of his Indian compatriot Bumrah (9) and Germany’s Ghulam Ahmadi (9) following him in the list. But he is still to bowl his first maiden over in New Zealand.
