T20 WC Final Awards: England all-rounder Sam Curran continues to raise his stature in world cricket. The prodigy pipped former India captain Virat Kohli to bag the player of the series award at the T20 World Cup 2022 on Sunday. Curran was the second highest wicket-taker of the marquee event with 13 scalps to his name only behind Sri Lanka spin ace Wanindu Hasaranga (15).
Courtesy of his three-wicket haul in the T20 World Cup final in Melbourne which was crucial in England’s triumph, he overcame Kohli for the top honour. He, thus, became the first player in T20 WC history to bag both player of the match and tournament awards. The prolific Indian run machine, meanwhile, was the most runs scorer at the event. He accumulated 296 runs to help India reach the semi-finals at an average of 98.66.
Apart from Kohli’s return to form with the bat and Curran’s significant show as a genuine bowler, there were a few other individual performance at the T20 World Cup 2022, which hogged the limelight. Australia all-rounder Marcus Stoinis’ quick-fire knock off an unbeaten 59 off 18 deliveries helped him register the highest strike rate for any batter in an innings. Curran, meanwhile, also recorded the best bowling figures by any bowler in the marquee event for his return of 5/10 against Afghanistan in the Super 12 Group Stage clash.
