Chennai has retained 9 players and released 4 players. Chennai has retained Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja, Moeen Ali, Shivam Dubey, Rituraj Gaikwad, Devon Conway, Mukesh Chaudhary, Dwayne Pretorius, and Deepak Chahar for the 16th season of IPL. Chris Jordan, Adam Milne, Narayan Jagdeeshan and Mitchell Santner have been released.

Earlier, several reports had confirmed that Dhoni made it clear to the team management that Ravindra Jadeja needs to be retained at any cost. Dhoni made it clear to the team that Jadeja’s influence can’t be replicated by any other player. Moreover Dhoni felt as CSK will be playing their HOME LEG in Chennai after long time, Jadeja is most suited to the conditions. On Dhoni’s insistence, CSK management has apporached Jadeja and it is being reported that TRUCE has been called between the parties.

What made Jadeja so upset with CSK? Jadeja spent 10 years with Chennai Super Kings after being signed in the 2012 auction. During his time in Chennai, the Rockstar won two IPL titles, establishing himself as one of the finest all-rounders in the game. One of the senior most members, the 31-year-old was handed the baton after MS Dhoni decided to step down and was retained for a whopping Rs 16 crore.

However, CSK lost six games in their eight outings under his captaincy. Jadeja even lost his form and managed to score only 111 runs and took three wickets in these matches. Finally Jadeja was removed from the captaincy. Soon after the sack, Jadeja was ruled out of the last few games of the season citing a rib injury. However, the sudden departure from the camp sparked rumors of a rift with the franchise.
