- Both the T20I and ODI squads that India assembled for their trip of New Zealand include Umran Malik.
- A chance to dazzle will be presented to the speedster after an underwhelming performance on Ireland tour.
- Young cricketers will have the chance to flourish in Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s absence.
India Tour of New Zealand: Umran Malik, the only Indian pacer who can consistently bowl at over 150 kph received a call in the India squad to start and showcase his talent in the windy New Zealand conditions. The Jammu pacer grabbed everyone’s attention with his breakneck speed in the Indian Premier League’s 2022 season.
But soon after making his debut in the IPL 2022, Malik vanished from the international stage. Before being let go, the 22-year-old played in just three T20Is. Malik’s bowling performance fell short of expectations when playing Ireland in a T20 international series in June. His economy rate in three games was 12.44, and he only managed to grab two wickets.
He was expected to play a key role for India in the T20 World Cup 2022. But it seemed challenging for him to make the World Cup squad as he had no mention in the Asia Cup squad as well. However, Malik was expected to join the Indian World Cup team as a net bowler to assist the Indian batters in becoming acclimated to the conditions in Australia. But the speedster was unable to travel to Australia to join the team due to a delay in obtaining Australian visas.
