Costa Rica had a decent time in their World Cup Qualifying games as they only managed to finish 4th, but when you see that the top 2 teams finished on 28 points and the teams placed 3rd and 4th finished on 25 points, then you would think that they didn’t do all that bad. They won their final 4 games of the group and established their position in the table well.
They made the Quarter Finals in the 2014 World Cup, which for them was a massive deal, but that team compared to the 2022 one is quite different. In Russia, they failed to really leave a mark and only managed the group stages, where they were knocked out.

Costa Rica usually plays in a 4-4-2 formation, which suits the way they operate. They have wingers that like to stretch the play and use their pace to good effect. When you have someone like Keylor Navas in goal, you have to use his experience and they give him a free hand to distribute the ball across the pitch.
