After Julen Lopetegui failed to guide Spain past the Round of 16 stages in the 2018 World Cup, there was a lot of debate surrounding who should replace him, and after some stop-gap solutions, Luis Enrique, the former FC Barcelona coach was named as the head coach and he has done supremely well. He has taken a team, with a style that seemed to be left behind in time, and has rejuvenated the squad, with a new and improved version of ‘tiki-taka’, but one which can sustain in this current football climate.
A lot of young players like Pedri, Gavi, Ansu Fati, Inaki Williams, Alejandro Balde, etc, have been given chances under his helm and they have performed well. He has found a rich mixture between experience and young players to mold a good team to compete and give it their all this winter in Qatar. You could see how much they’ve improved as they made the semis of the Euro 2020, but lost out to eventual winners Italy on penalties.

TEAM NEWS
La Rojas usually plays in a 4-3-3 formation, which is one they have preferred for quite a long time now. The positive thing for Luis Enrique is that he has a lot of depth in his team and his lads are quite versatile as well. For example, Pedri can play on LW, RW, RM, LM, RCM, etc, and this is just one example. Even though Pedri plays best in midfield, the choice and option to have is a big boon for the head coach. Ferran has been getting back to form slowly, but surely and his work from the RW will be crucial to Spain’s success as well.

INJURY LIST
Midfielder Mikel Oyarzabal is doubtful to make it on the flight to Qatar after suffering an ACL injury. Even though he got injured in March, ACL injuries generally take a while to heal and so, he might not be part of the Spain team this time around. Recently, Morata and Eric Garcia suffered some injuries too, but luckily, there were minor ones and they should be 100% fit come the World Cup.

GROUP NEWS
La Rojas will be in Group E in this edition of the World Cup, sharing the group with Germany, Costa Rica, and Japan. A very tricky group indeed as all three teams are massively talented. It will be an exciting group to watch.
FIXTURES
The Spanish Bulls begin their WC campaign with a game against Costa Rica on the 23rd of November, followed by a game against their European counterparts, Germany on the 28th, and their final game against Japan on the 2nd of December.
