The two sides played at an astonishing tempo in the first half. Aslam Inamdar of Pune and Narender of the Thalaivas frequently traded punches and the Thalaivas had a 16-15 advantage at halftime. In the second half though the Thalaivas started off by inflicting the first all out of the game. Atrachali, Abinesh Nadarajan, Sombir, and Pankaj Mohite were all caught off guard by Narender’s super raid, increasing their advantage to 24-16.
From that point on, the Paltan tried too hard to make a comeback in the contest. They soon took control of the contest and reduced Thalaivas to an almost all-out situation. Two vital super tackles, the first by Himanshu on Inamdar and the second by Sagar on Mohit Goyat, saved an all-out situation when there were three men left on the mat.
With just fve minutes left on the clock, the Paltan rallied to cause their first all-out of the game, cutting the deficit to four at 30-34. Finally, it all came down the wire with the Thalaivas leading by one point on the final raid of the game. An incorrect calculation by the Paltan bench allowed them to sneak the points home.
