ICC Elections LIVE: ICC Annual Meeting LIVE: Zimbabwe Cricket chairman Tavengwa Mukuhlani has thrown in his hat in the ring for ICC Elections. While incumbent Greg Barclay is the overwhelming favourite, Mukuhlani is banking on support from Asian nations. As for BCCI, which decided not to nominate Sourav Ganguly for the elections, is likely to support Barclay for another term. While the nominations ended on October 20, ICC had been tight-lipped about the contestants. Later, it was learnt that Imran Khwaja, who is ICC’s deputy chairman filed his nomination. However, he had withdrawn after failing to garner much support. The veteran from Singapore had contested in 2020 but fell second to Barclay who took the ICC top job. As per the norms, both candidates had to show the support of two current directors endorsing their candidature by October 25. Mukuhlani has managed to do that.

Tavengwa Mukuhlani is still hoping to get BCCI’s backing besides some of Asian nations including Pakistan, UAE and Bangladesh. While BCCI hasn’t made it official, it is expected to support Greg Barclay once again. That was one of the primary reasons for not nominating anyone including Sourav Ganguly for the post.
“The BCCI AGM has decided to give powers to office bearers on BCCI’s representative to ICC. As far as whom BCCI will back in the ICC election we will decide when the bridge comes,” BCCI vice president Rajeev Shukla told media after the BCCI AGM.
