“You saw that we had to play in a wet outfield, but there was also a case of fake fielding which also didn’t go our way,” Hasan told the press after the game.

According to Hasan, the fake throw by Kohli went largely unnoticed. Kohli should have been penalized five runs – the margin of defeat for Bangladesh.

The former India captain pretended to be relaying an Arshdeep Singh throw from the deep during the seventh over of Bangladesh’s chase. According to Bangladesh, umpires Marais Erasmus and Chris Brown were unaware of the occurrence.

Jalal Yunus, BCB’s cricket operation chairman, told reporters on Thursday as per Cricbuzz that their skipper informed Erasmus about fake fielding incident but the standing umpire paid no heed.

“We have spoken about it. You have seen it in the TV and everything happened in front of you. There was one regarding fake throw and we have notified the umpires about the fake throw but he said he did not noticed it and that is the reason he did not take the review. Shakib discussed a lot about it with Erasmus and even spoke with him after game,” Jalal said.

“Secondly, Shakib had spoken about the wet field and he asked that he can take some more time and let the field get dried and start the game after the field is dried. But… the umpires’ decision is final and that is reason there was no place for argument. There was only one decision whether you will play or not play,” he added.

“We have it in our head so that we can raise the issue in the proper forum,” Jalal concluded.

Virat Kohli FAKE FIELDING? ENTIRE Incident EXPLAINED

The incident happened in the seventh over of Bangladesh’s run-chase. Opener Litos Das flying high with 56 from 24 gave himself room and cut to the sweeper boundary from Axar Patel’s second delivery.

Commentator Harsha Bhogle said he “doesn’t know what danger is as they’re coming back for two” when Kohli, standing inside the ring, turned and delivered a fake throw to the non-striker’s end as the Tigers openers scampered back to complete their second run with the ball sent back to the wicket-keeper.

Kohli feigned as if he were relaying an Arshdeep Singh throw from the deep. Neither the umpires, Marais Erasmus and Chris Brown, spot it, nor did the two batters – Litton Das and Najmul Hossain Shanto – out in the middle.

What does ICC RULES say? As per ICC law 41.5, pertaining to unfair play, prohibits the “deliberate distraction, deception or obstruction of [the] batter”, and if an incident is deemed to be a breach, the umpire can declare that particular delivery as dead ball, and award the batting side five runs.

The replay could be interpreted as an attempt at deception from Kohli. Given that Arshdeep’s throw from the deep passed by his right hand at the same moment that he motioned a relay throw.

Nurul told reporters had that decision gone Bangladesh’s way it could have been a different scenario. India sneaked home winners by five runs, the exact margin of the run penalty associated with fake fielding.

“Certainly the field was wet and it had an impact and everyone saw that and eventually what I felt is that when we were talking there was a fake throw and it could have been a five run penalty and that could have gone our way but unfortunately even that didn’t come,” Nurul told reporters.

The incident wasn’t the only controversial one between the rivals. Earlier, Kohli successfully attempted to sway umpire Marais Erasmus into awarding India a free hit after Hasan bowled a short ball that was later deemed a no ball for being above the head.

Kohli, who was on 45 at the time, managed to hook the ball and pick up a single but as he completed the shot and ran down the wicket he remonstrated with his arms out.

Bhogle called the score at the end of the over before noticing that Erasmus had put out his arm, saying “Oh dear”.

Shakib Al Hasan appeared bemused by the call as he and Kohli came together in a friendly manner, as the Bangladesh captain put his arm around his rival and laughed at the call.

“A no-ball has been given,” Bhogle said. “Marais Erasmus has indicated that the no-ball is for height. I think there’s been some disagreement. Shakib and Virat Kohli moving around for a long time, tried to laugh it off. Now Virat Kohli has said that was high and I think that is what Shakib did not like.”

In the end the free hit did not come back to bite Bangladesh hard, with Dinesh Karthik managing to score just a single from the full toss. But the extra two runs also hurt the Tigers’ chances during their run-chase.
