IND vs BAN LIVE: ICC T20 World Cup 2022 – With Dinesh Karthik ruled out of Bangladesh match with back spasm, Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid are facing a big dilemma. While Rishabh Pant will replace Karthik in the India Playing XI, they will need a finisher. Pant will play at No 5. That leaves the finisher’s spot wide open. Deepak Hooda didn’t utilise his chance against South Africa. Furthermore, he has not done well as a hard-hitter at No 7 either. Hence, Rohit Sharma will have to take a call on who to go with, Axar Patel or Hooda. Axar gives India bowling depth while Hooda has not been trusted with the ball often. Importantly, the Men in Blue are in a must-win situation against Bangladesh after a defeat at the hands of South Africa. With that, India cannot afford to try out combinations and will need to go with the best possible XI. Unfortunately, Deepak Hooda doesn’t fit in well.

India Playing XI vs BAN: Why Rishabh Pant’s inclusion could force Deepak Hooda to be dropped?
- Dinesh Karthik has been India’s designated No 6 batter.
- However, Rishabh Pant bats at No 5 or higher and hasn’t been very fruitful as a power-hitter.
- Deepak Hooda has also not been very successful as a power-hitter down the order.
- As both Hooda and Pant will clash for the position, Rohit Sharma will have to drop Hooda.
- At No 7, Deepak Hooda has batted twice, scoring just 19 runs at a strike rate of 105.56.
- Axar Patel, on the other hand, has batted 12 times, scoring 99 runs at 152.31 strike rate.
- With the ball too, Axar Patel has given India a spin option in powerplay.
- He is a wicket-taking option with the ball that Hooda doesn’t offer.
- The only thing to ponder for Team India will be 3 left-handers in Bangladesh’s top order including Shakib Al Hasan.
- Left-arm spinners generally don’t do a great match-up against left-handed batters.
- It is a call, the captain has to take after the practice session on Tuesday.

Head coach Rahul Dravid and Rohit will now have to make choice between Deepak Hooda and Axar Patel to fulfil the finisher’s responsibility. Hooda who was given a chance against the Proteas failed to get going as he bagged a three-ball duck. Hooda was also not utilized with the ball.
Axar on the other hand has been performing decently for the Men in Blue. The left-arm spinner did not have a good time against the arch-rivals Pakistan as he was thrashed for 21 runs in just one over. However, the 28-year-old bounced back well against the Netherlands as he finished his four-over quota after scalping two wickets and gave away just 18 runs.
Axar is also more than handy with the bat. The left-handed batter has represented India in 34 T20I matches and has stroked 164 runs at a decent strike rate of 133.3. As a result, team India might be tempted to go with Axar instead of Hooda to play the finisher’s role against the Bangladeshi side.
